HSS.ID.A.1, HSS.ID.A.2, and HSS. ID. A.3: Box and Whisker Plots

This learning progression is writing for  11th and 12th-grade Statistic class as to be taught in the begin of the year. Box and Whisker Plots are a great way to start a statistic class because it is an easy concept to learning in order to begin statistics. For this class, there is no book to based this class on so the CCSS and Khan Academy will be used. For each lesson in this learning progression, there are links to Khan Academy videos. The purpose of this is to help students who having a hard time learning in the classroom and/or need extra help.

Common Core State Standard cluster:

Summarize, represent, and interpret data on a single count or measurement variable
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSS.ID.A.1
Represent data with plots on the real number line (dot plots, histograms, and box plots).
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSS.ID.A.2
Use statistics appropriate to the shape of the data distribution to compare center (median, mean) and spread (interquartile range, standard deviation) of two or more different data sets.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSS.ID.A.3
Interpret differences in shape, center, and spread in the context of the data sets, accounting for possible effects of extreme data points (outliers).

Students will be demonstrate the following Common Core best mathematical practices:
MP4: Model with mathematics MP6: Attend to precision, MP7: Look for and make use of
MP6: Attend to precisionMP7: Look for and make use of structure.
MP7: Look for and make use of structure.

In this learning progression, the teacher plans the lessons to be based off student data. In the first lesson, the teacher would collect some data from the students in an entry task which will be for lesson 2 and 3 assessments. In each lesson, there will be an entry task, worksheet, and exit task.
