Writing a Learning Progression (that includes modeling)

Write a Learning Progression for a unit aligned to a critical area from one of the domains in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

Required Components:
• Identify a critical area from one of the domains in the CCSSM
• Describe in paragraph form the sequence of concepts and skills the students will need to learn.
• Align the standards to the concepts and skills described in the learning progression.
• Include possible tasks that could be used to teach the concepts and skills described in the learning progression.
• Include a modeling task.

Grading Rubric:
• Include all required components (0-5)
• Learning progression makes use of how students learn mathematics (0-15)
• Common Core Standards are aligned with concepts and skills in the learning progression (1-10)
• Possible instructional tasks are discussed in the learning progression (1-10)
• Modeling task makes use of problem solving and other mathematical practices (1-10)

Guidelines and helpful hints:
Attached is a learning progression the includes all the required components listed above. This learning progression was written for the entire High School Probability and Statistics domain, so your assignment will be limited to just one of the critical areas (titles for each area). The authors aligned the standards with the learning progression by inserting subscripts standards and then writing out the standard in the left column. I think this is awkward and would embed the standards using end-notes, foot-notes, or some other method. Notice that the authors use possible learning tasks as examples to describe the concepts and skills in the learning progression.
